Huge congratulations to our out-going Editor-in-Chief Prof Raph Grzebieta, Dr Chika Sakashita and the team on achieving this significant milestone for the Journal of Road Safety.
The Impact Factor is a key indicator that measures the importance of a scientific journal. It takes into account how often a paper is cited, the publication schedule and timely reviews. Our starting Impact Factor is low (0.3, 4th quartile) but it’s a start! Also, it removes a barrier for some Australian academics whose universities only allow publication in journals with an Impact Factor.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Journal of Road Safety. To every author, thank you for choosing the JRS. To every reviewer, thank you for giving your time and expertise.
We look forward to receiving your next manuscript on your work to share through the Journal of Road Safety to help stop people being killed or seriously injured on our roads.
We’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Raph for his enormous contribution over the past two decades as Editor of the Journal of Road Safety. Raph has played a vital role in maintaining the Journal’s reputation as a leading platform for road safety research.
Please welcome our new Editor-in-Chief, Dr Marilyn Johnson. Marilyn is a senior road safety researcher with over 15 years of experience and expertise in vulnerable road user safety, particularly cyclists. She leads interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with the community to improve road safety outcomes.
Marilyn also worked with the Amy Gillett Foundation for over a decade where she was a leader for change to improve safety for cyclists including creating a training program that put truck drivers on bicycles. She was a leading advocate in the decade-long national campaign, a metre matters, to change the road rules to require drivers to give cyclists minimum passing distance, which was finally achieved in April 2021.
She is a longstanding member of the ACRS and served the College on the National Executive, including a term as Vice-President, a term as Chair of the Victorian Chapter and was the Chair of the Scientific Committee for the 2020/2021 Australasian Road Safety Conference in Melbourne.
